How fast is your video card?

Wednesday, October 20th, 2004

We’ve been running 3dMark on our machines here at work just for fun. If you haven’t tried it already, give it a whirl and post your numbers.

And yes, I know 3dMark has its fair share of controversy, but it’s a pretty demo, and it’s just for fun.

Also, FYI, Toms Hardware released its new set of video card benchmarks. See if your card is right where it should be.

It’s not all-or-nothing with .NET

Wednesday, October 20th, 2004

Nice msdn article here:
The Myth of .NET Purity, Reloaded

Here’s the summary:
Does a solution written for Microsoft .NET have to be 100% .NET? Scott Hanselman looks at how hybrid managed-unmanaged solutions are really the norm.

I tend to agree. You aren’t going to find everything you need written in .NET, so you are going to have to do some thing in the unmanaged space. Fortunately, .NET makes writing unmanaged wrappers pretty painless.

A month with a Mac

Tuesday, October 19th, 2004

Here’s an honest report from a PC guy that devoted a month of his time to using a Mac.
He doesn’t reveal anything new or revolutionary, but it’s an interesting comparison. I only include it because it seems like this guy has been using PCs for as long as I have, and is a rabid keyboard user instead of the mouse, like me. So if I were to do the same expirement, I’d probably arrive at similar conclusions as him.

Zoom Quilt

This is neat. Zoom in and out seamlessly. It wraps around too quickly though.

Can you pick out where the LODs pop in and out?

Outrun 2 Flag Guy

Sunday, October 10th, 2004

Movie taken from this link: http://tcal.net/index.php?p=79

Click here to watch a movie from Outrun 2. Some artist had way too much fun with this guy. Especially since the only time you can see him is if you waste your quarter and not run the race (my guess is that it cost more than a quarter). Has anyone played this game yet? I always liked the first Outrun, but was never any good at it.
